CarricDesign first started working with Kingston WritersFest in 2009, when they suddenly found their website infested with malware and needed some professional help to get the site back up quickly. At the time, the site owner was working in western Canada, so all communication was done via email.
The website contains a wealth of information that changes from year to year as new programs and initiatives are added to the mix and is updated throughout the festival year. The recent update to using WordPress means that many content edits can be done in-house and by a variety of editors.
The site has gone through several revisions since 2009. At each stage, material and structure has been reviewed to increase visibility for festival activities and provide users with easier access to information. Designs are created by the festival art director and implemented by CarricDesign (along with supporting graphic elements).
The website is connected to their active Twitter account and Facebook pages and has featured a blog in the past. Emails are collected by use of a link to a third-party communication program.
The festival staff are now able to update the site in house, which was one of the goals of the last update.
“Carol Tomalty rescued us in a time of crisis, with skill and patience and good humour — qualities that have never flagged. She is a joy to work with: she intuits our needs and brings highly creative solutions to every challenge. Thorough, precise, a keeper of deadlines, she never fails to make us look good — very, very good!”
—Merilyn Simonds, Kingston WritersFest Artistic Director 2009-2013
